On behalf of the National Workers Party and on our own behalf, we express over deep sense of sorrow on the demise of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet and offer sincerest condolences to the members and leadership of the CPI(M). By the passing away of Comrade Surjeet the people of India have lost a great patriot and the working class movement a committed communist. He was a true professional revolutionary who relentlessly fought all his life for the cause of the down trodden not only of India but of the whole World.
People of Pakistan and in particular those of the left in Pakistan have fond memories of his visit to Pakistan as the General Secretary of CPI (M) in the company of comrade AB Bardhan only a few years ago. The vehemence with which he expressed the cause of a common struggle of the people of the sub-continent against the forces of neo-imperialism lead by the United States inspired many in Pakistan. He was indeed a strong supporter of a democratic Pakistan and stood for the peaceful resolve of all disputes between India and Pakistan.
